Hello Govans Family!

YOU are invited to be a part of this virtual song!  It’s Christmas time!

Please take a moment to read thoroughly and JOIN in the fun!

It’s Christmas time! I am thrilled to announce Go Tell it on the Mountain as our latest virtual song project.  We are inviting the entire church (and beyond!) to participate --  this will be super easy and fun!

Thank you for being a part of singing the Good News!

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR VIDEOS TO lea@govanspres.org BY MONDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2020

We would love to join in!  Tell us more...

Well, here ya are:

You will join the Govans Band singing Go Tell it On the Mountain - virtually!

We are looking for:

  • Solo videos  - just you :)
  • You and your spouse
  • You and your kids
  • You and your neighbor (s)
  • You and the mailperson
  • You and your entire family
  • Just the kids
  • You and your dogs, cats, salamanders…
  • Basically, in whatever group you wish to gather!

We really encourage kids to take part.

How do we do this?

I am so happy you asked!

Here is the video you will be singing with:

https://youtu.be/BB7DSSBTJQY

There are no designated harmonies (or individual harmony tracks).  Simply sing the melody. If you wish to sing a simple harmony (no dissonance please), please do so!

PLEASE NOTE: The song is syncopated (rhythmically a bit different than usual, just take a listen).

PLEASE NOTE AGAIN: The vocals in the track you will listen to are foundational and are marking the place for you to sing.  Instrumental, as well as vocal solos will also be added.

Please feel free to adlib (only if you are experienced in doing so).

So, what do we sing,  specifically?

You will sing the words indicated by Green text. Basically, you will be singing the chorus throughout the song.

  • 8 bar intro

Go tell it on the mountain

Over the hills and everywhere

Go tell it on the mountain

That Jesus Christ is born

Go tell it on the mountain

Over the hills and everywhere

Go tell it on the mountain

That Jesus Christ is born

Verse 1

While shepherds kept their watching

over silent flocks by night,

behold throughout the heavens,

there shone a holy light.

Go tell it on the mountain

Over the hills and everywhere

Go tell it on the mountain

That Jesus Christ is born

Verse 2

The shepherds feared and trembled

when lo! above the earth

rang out the angel chorus

that hailed our Saviour’s birth.

 -- INSTRUMENTAL --  (full form)

(Music Out - Clap on this Chorus only)

Go tell it on the mountain

Over the hills and everywhere

Go tell it on the mountain

That Jesus Christ is born

Go tell it on the mountain

Over the hills and everywhere

Go tell it on the mountain

That Jesus Christ is born

That Jesus Christ is born

Ritard/Slower

That Jesus Christ is born  [END

Note: There will be soloists singing over the voices you hear on the track for each verse.

Sing with great joy and enthusiasm! Put a smile in your voice and on your face.  :-)

Do not hesitate to move: rock, sway, dance!   🎉

RECORDING DIRECTIONS:

Listen to the video to learn and practice the song.  This is very important.  The more you listen, the more it “clicks.”

You will be singing along with us while you record yourself in order to maintain timing.

Once you're comfortable with the song you will need two devices:

  • One device that can video record you singing along (like your phone, laptop, etc.)

  • A second device to listen to the track while you record yourself singing. You MUST use headphones/earbuds. This ensures the original master track recording won't be picked up on your recording. If you are a larger group and don't have headphones for everyone, have someone wear headphones/earbuds and follow that person's singing.  We just want to make sure (again) that the actual track doesn't leak through to your recording; OR, make sure the video is playing as low as possible and is still audible for you to sing along with and record from one device.   The former method is preferred.

WHEN RECORDING:

  • Make sure you position your device so you get the best possible sound. This means not standing too close and not having the device in your hand.

  • Make sure you're in a quiet spot to eliminate background noise.

  • You should be well lit.   If you can, PLEASE RECORD AGAINST A NEUTRAL OR SOLID WALL AND NOT A WINDOW.

DO NOT FEAR!  We are not looking for perfection (what is that anyway?)  😊😊

Make sure you look energized and engaged!

IMPORTANT:  WAIT 5 SECONDS AFTER THE TRACK ENDS BEFORE STOPPING THE VIDEO. NOTE: you need not consider any harmonies, adlibs, etc., but if you wanna, you can.  We are looking for everyone to take part, not that just of us who identify as singers!

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR VIDEOS BY MONDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2020

This is much more simple and fun than all of these words convey.   Promise!
