11 Vision Themes

The completed Mission Study has eleven themes which will direct us into the future and which will guide our work in the years ahead.  For detailed information, click on the appropriate link below.

THEME #1: Church Identity
Govans Church is a progressive, inclusive, loving, faith community. We are a More Light congregation, and are committed to the full participation of all members in the life of the church. We are working for social, racial and economic justice. Together, we are on a transforming lifelong spiritual journey. We respect and engage other faiths.

THEME #2: Congregational Bonds
Govans Church is a community of faith that offers a variety of programs for individuals of all ages, providing fellowship, love, friendship, and opportunities for involvement. Govans has an intentional commitment to including children in the life of the church.

THEME #3: Spirituality and Worship
Govans Church strives to nurture the spiritual growth of all its members through varieties of worship and many other activities in the life of our congregation.

THEME #4: Education
Govans Church is committed to a Christian education program for children, youth and adults. In addition, we strive to be an active community of thinkers and searchers where Biblical sources are used to frame and address the issues of contemporary life.

THEME #5: Music
Govans Church celebrates worship through a diverse, inclusive, high-quality musical program for all ages. Music also plays an important role in our children's educational programs, in community outreach, and in the social life of the church.

THEME #6: Mission
Govans Church exemplifies "faith in action," with local and far-reaching mission projects that are well-known to the congregation and generously supported by members with both money and volunteer service.

THEME #7: Buildings and Grounds
The grounds of Govans Church are a welcoming oasis of peace, a sanctuary of reflection and spiritual nourishment, and a beacon of hope and joy for all in the community.

THEME #8: Stewardship
The church is broadly and deeply supported financially by members as an outgrowth of our mission and the spiritual growth of our congregation.

THEME #9: Ties to the Surrounding Neighborhoods
Govans Church is highly visible, connected to the community and well-known as a place where people's desire for fellowship, recreation, education and spiritual growth are met.

THEME #10: Communications
Govans Church effectively communicates our unique identity through multiple media. First, we connect members to the life of the church, its programs, resources and activities; second, we communicate to the community our unique identity and programs, and the value of church membership.

THEME #11: Resource and Membership Growth
Govans Church is a growing community with sufficient resources of time, talent and money to sustain the variety of programs and missions we envision.
