Young Families Canoe and Scoop Day
Enjoy a morning of FREE kayaking while also cleaning up our local waterways! Govans is partnering with Baltimore City Parks & Recreation for a “canoe and scoop” day at Middle Branch Park. Parks and Recreation will provide kayaks, safety gear, and paddling instructions. We’ll enjoy the water while also collecting trash from the shoreline. Music Mondays @ Govans: Walt Michael In Concert
Walt Michael first encountered southern Appalachian culture and music as a student volunteer/organizer in 1966. With guitar and banjo in hand, he heard the voices and learned songs emanating from the hollers in the coal fields of the Cumberland Plateau. Racial Justice Ministry Speaker Series: Charita Cole Brown
Charita Cole Brown was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when she was in college. She wrote her recent book, “Defying the Verdict: My Bipolar Life,” to help people understand the disorder and to challenge the stereotypes that surround mental illness generally, especially in communities of color. Brown had a career in elementary education, and now is a mental wellness advocate for numerous organizations. Brown’s mission is to help cure mental healthcare stigma by sharing her story.
Music Mondays: Marc Borms
Marc Borms is a Belgian pianist and guitarist whose musical life has been inspired by African-American traditional music. He has recently released the critically acclaimed and deeply personal album of original songs named Scars.
Music Mondays: Community Sing with Shelly Ensor & Paul Hulleberg
Shelley Ensor is a renowned singer, instructor and choir director who has inspired audiences and students across the globe. Paul Hulleberg is a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, mandolin, banjo and ukulele. He also loves singing songs from a variety of styles and sources and making and sharing music with others. Youth Sunday
Govans youth grades 3-12 will lead worship online on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Youth Servant Leaders will give short reflections, but other youth are invited to share readings, music, artwork, and more during the service.
